Animal Keeping is an important source of income and a greater ways of employment generation in rural people in Eastern and North Eastern India. Due to Increasing demand of land for urbanization and industrialization the agricultural land is diminishing day by day and livestock production thus gaining its significances as an alternative source of food for substance prevalent o of life.
Food Producing animals i.e. "Food on hooves" mainly cattle are the major livestock in Eastern and North Eastern India.
Though there is available of moderate infrastructure and animal health experts in these humid and tropical zones. Yet the animal health care system could not achieve its goal. Almost all the infectious diseases prevalent in other parts of the country do exist in this region.Diseases like foot & mouth diseases.
Anthrax, Haemorrhagic septicaemia, Black quarter, Tuberculosis, Brucellosis does occur in endemic or epidemic proportion through out the year. Besides, parasitic infestation continues to occur in this part and economic losses through these agents are enormous in nature.
